History of Ethereum Classic

The DAO, a venture capital fund built on Ethereum, raised $168million in May 2016. A paper was released the same month stating that the DAO security is vulnerable and could allow ether to be stolen, this was proven right in June, as 3.6 million Ether was taken from accounts in the DAO without owners consent. Members of The DAO and the Ethereum community voted what actions should be made and in July 2016 it was decided to implement a hard fork.

Some members of the Ethereum community rejected the hard fork so decided to keep the unforked version of Ethereum and called it Ethereum Classic.
