What is Dogecoin?

Dogecoin is a decentralized and secure cryptocurrency which is used to buy products or to trade for other currencies (both cryptocurrencies or fiat currencies such as USD and EUR). Dogecoin features a likeness of the Shiba Inu dog from the Doge internet meme as its logo. Although it was introduced on 6th December 2013, as a "joke currency", Dogecoin has quickly developed its own community online and reached a capitalization of $60 million in January 2014.

History of Dogecoin

Dogecoin was created by programmer Billy Markus who wanted to create a cryptocurrency which was fun and would become more popular than Bitcoin. Jackson Palmer who is a member of Adobe Systems' marketing department in Sydney, was reached by a Student to make the idea a reality. After many mentions, Jackson Palmer purchased the dogecoin.com domain and added the coin's logo. After seeing the site, Billy Markus got in touch with Jackson Palmer and started to create the currency.

On December 6th 2013 Dogecoin was officially launched and the Dogecoin network intended to produce 100billion Dogecoin, but later, announced that they would produce infinite Dogecoins. Fast forward to January 2018, and Dogecoin has reached a $2 billion market cap.
